The entire town, including the market area, was looted. All the food supplies were burned. In the end more than 10,000 people ran from Akot, Sudan, and the surrounding areas to seek shelter in 13 nearby villages.

The seven mile walk to the hand-dug well is a thing of the past.

Nduri Isandap lifts a heavy jerry can of water onto her back for the long journey home. Several times a day, she makes the journey to provide enough water for her family.

Women in northern Kenya draw water from a well connected to BGR tanks. Baptist Global Response funded four 10,000-litre tanks that provide water for more than 4,000 people. The closer water allows women time for other activities, such as childcare, education and productive work.
