Playing for Change artist Louis Mhlanga is best known for his unique style of guitar playing, particularly for blending Africa’s distinct rhythms and sounds with traditional jazz and blues. He is a popular international recording artist, performer and producer. His talents take him around the world, performing at some of the most prestigious culture, music and jazz festivals.

African musician Louis Mhlanga.Mhlanga was born into a musical family in Zimbabwe, and is now based out of Johannesburg, South Africa. “My music is just an expression of my experiences and the connection I have with day-to-day events,” he said. “It is also about the happiness I feel when I am able to reach other souls through music.”

Mhlanga has a heart for helping people through music and established the Zimbabwe Ethnomusicology Centre in 1992. His current involvement with Playing for Change is a continuation of his desire to affect change for the good of mankind through music.

Playing for Change is an international music initiative designed to inspire, connect and bring peace to the world through music. Their version of the song “Stand by Me” has taken the US by storm and has had over 14 million hits on . The group has been featured on “The Tonight Show,” ABC, PBS and other television networks and programs. They have had numerous US and international tours, and their internationally-released CD Playing for Change: Songs Around the World was sold in Starbucks stores across the US.
