“We escaped with our lives.”

The entire town, including the market area, was looted. All the food supplies were burned. In the end more than 10,000 people ran from Akot and the surrounding areas to seek shelter in 13 nearby villages.

John Younker works in the corn fields of a villager in Lesotho. His intention is “to live in the village and try to be like the people, and to live life with them, go to the well with them, go to the store with them, go to the fields with them, to do their life,” he says.
